Robot [Roundup] Edition 14-02-07 © Robot International Pty Ltd www.robot.com.au o-[*_*]-o
Howdy folks and welcome to the latest Robot Roundup. The Roundup is the free fortnightly e-newsletter sent to all Roundup and GreazeFest subscribers.
There’s so much happening around the traps that the weeks are flying by. Here at Robot HQ we’re gearing up for this weekend’s Mods’n’Rockers Dance Party. Last weekend we caught up with Perth band, The Jackknives, for a nasty set of she-rock, along with Brisbane band The Side Effects, while over on the southside of town, The Ten Fours and the Corn Liquors got together for a birthday bash. The night before was the unique C.W. Stoneking and three-piece band at The Troubadour and Saturday night at The Troub’ saw Brisbane bands getting together for a Beatles Tribute (hmm… now there’s a concept), which we couldn’t get along to, but wish we coulda.
There's a bunch of news following and gig information, so please read on.
See you soon,
Lori Lee

What a Difference a Dale Makes
Sydney and Melbourne readers if you don’t already know, Dale Watson is heading your way for a string of shows. Brisbane readers please note we did have the honky tonker lined up for Queensland dates too, but Dale had commitments in the USA that he had to return to, so the tour had to be a short one. But don’t be glum chum as he’ll be back again one day soon. Gig dates are here: www.dalewatson.com/tourdates.htm
Custom Culture Captured
Local Brisbane publication, TCB Magazine has just released their new issue, #3 and it’s looking pretty slick as usual with classy pinups, motorcycles, hot rods and artists.
Just last week, the Robot picked up the spanner for TCB and tuned their web site to get it running smoothly. So if you’ve been waiting to order your copy of TCB Magazine online now is your chance:

Rockets Launch Third Missile
Newcastle rockers, The Retro Rockets have just released their third cd, called ‘Cars, Guitars and Girls From Mars’. All of the 12 songs have been penned by talented guitarist Brien McVernon and, as expected, the musicianship is a high standard and the whole package is knowingly designed to make you dance. The songs stretch across all tempos of rockabilly to surf twang, rock’n’roll, swingers and rock-a-ballads. You can get your copy here: www.mustangrecords.com.au If you want to see these cats back in Brisbane, drop me a line and let me know!
Sydney Scene
Legendary Sydney dj’s and dance instructors Limpin’ Jimmy and The Swingin’ Kitten have converted their regular e-newsletter to an online web site. The new site is looking very dapper indeed and it’s an easy way for you to access their gig guide and newsletter each week. They also score points for the longest web address in the rocker scene, check ‘em out here: www.limpinjimmyandtheswinginkitten.com.au .
The Mods'n'Rockers ~ 'A Rock'n'Roll Dance Party'
The Mods’n’Rockers Dance Party #3 is on this Saturday night! The Mods’n’Rockers aint a rumble in Brighton, but it’s a celebration of music from both the 1950s and the 1960s, combining catchy rockabilly rhythms with swinging sixties sounds.
Appearing at this year’s event is: - Mick Hadley & The Atomic Boogie Band - West Texas Crude - Brandi & The Badcats - Screamin' Stevie & The Credit Union - DJ Lori Lee
Table bookings for groups are now booked out. There will be non-reserved seating at the venue, so you’ll still have somewhere to hang out if you haven’t made a booking. The Mods’n’Rockers is being held upstairs in the clubhouse at Souths Leagues Club, the same venue as the Sinners Ball & Greazers Ball at GreazeFest.
Parking and access to the club is along the driveway that runs off Jane Street. Young dudes please note that under-18s can attend if you are accompanied by a parent or guardian. If you were wondering, ‘guardian’ doesn’t mean your older friend or sibling!
The doors open at 8.00pm and the live music starts at 8.30pm. The playing order is Brandi, then Screamin’ Stevie, then Mick Hadley, then West Texas Crude. I’ll be dj-ing throughout the night, so bring your requests.
Cover charge is just $15. You can find more info on the web site www.robot.com.au or simply email Lori Lee at lori@robot.com.au . See you on the dance floor!
BTW, our drum kit for the night is being supplied by Col Gillies from The Drummers Warehouse, who often run drum workshops with international special guests at Souths. They also have a drum school and you can check 'em out here at: www.drummers.com.au
Custom Rockabilly #6
The next Custom Rockabilly show is coming up at The Troubadour on Saturday March 17.
The line up will feature West Texas Crude, Men Into Space, Corn Liquor and DJ Lori Lee.
The previous Custom Rockabilly held last October was a humdinger and we’ve been hanging out to do it all again. The rockabilly evenings at The Troubadour are always special. The club has the best sound system in town and they always achieve a great rockabilly mix. The club is full of heart and is run by people who really care about music, so it’s all fun and no trouble. And if you get there early enough, you may even find a couch to lounge on for the night! But who would want to sit down with such a great line up of bands?!
Doors open at 8pm, admission is just $12, you must be over 18.
